Received 4th Feb '04:-
- Hello I just wondered if anyone in Weldon remembers me. I left
the village about 20 years ago having lived all my life until the
age of 18 in the same house at 78 Corby Road. I very much enjoyed my
life growing up in Weldon.I was married at Weldon Parish Church in
1990. I am now living in a pretty village in Perthshire ,Scotland.
My brother- TINKS-, who was always more famous(or infamous) locally
than myself as he was such an avid footballer has also moved to the
same village in Scotland along with my parents(chris and Peter). At
school I remember teachers Mr and Mrs Fitten and Mrs Eves and the
name Kettles I think. My 2 children found this site very good as I
have not many photographs to show them of my old village. Avril

Received 28th March:-
- Hi David, It is nice to see that a 14 year old cares about the
state of the village. Whilst back on Christmas vacation, I was appalled
at the general lack of care with regard to litter being strewn
throughout the village. I live in Cedar Rapids USA, and have to
say the people here are far more domesticated when it comes to
putting litter in trash cans. Corby has been a disaster area for
years, I could not believe the number of reports in the Evening
Telegraph relating to Arson attempts in Corby. It is almost as
if society has degenerated to such a point that nobody cares
anymore! The recent so called development in the village appears
to be a major contributor to the demise of Weldon. As for
Wonderworld site, I have already made my feelings known in an
earlier letter to you. Why would CDC/ ENC encourage such a
development rather that sorting out the obvious problems in
Corby? An analogy of the current development can be likened to
placing a $5000 stereo system in a scrap yard car. You have to
have a solid infrastructure on which to build. Unfortunately the
infrastructure is now so weak that it is like the little Dutch
boy putting his finger in a hole in the dam to stop the leak! I
am a firm believer in people responsible for planning having to
reach a minimum academic standard before embarking on town and
country planning. If this had been the case in Weldon and Corby,
we would not be looking at the current eyesores. It all starts
at infant school. I can remember Mr and Mrs Fitton and the staff
at Weldon school instilling high standards in us regarding
litter and Village pride. We used to do gardening at the side of
the old school, and I believe that this was the seed that was
needed, and is still needed to make sure that young people do
have a pride in their local environment. Any way, I was
impressed to see that a 14 year old does care, however we need
more of this sooner rather than later! Kind regards Kevin
Linden.
Received 11th March (About
the speed humps on Corby Road ):-
- THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH
THIS TYPE OF SPEED BARRIER, IS THAT IT COULD
TEMPT CAR OWNERS INTO THINKING THAT ENERGY DEFFICIENT 4x4
VEHICLES ARE REQUIRED TO NEGOTIATE THEM ...AT SPEED.
THE EXTRA POLLUTION, IN BOTH NOISE AND ATMOSPHERE, WOULD NEGATE
THERE COST.
SURELY A BETTER WAY, WOULD BE FOR DIGITAL CAMERA MONITORING AS
USED AT GEDDINGTON.
THEY ACTUALLY MAKE A PROFIT, AND IF PLACED CORRECTLY STOP
RAT-RUNNING.
